A campground that was closed due to flooding last year has reopened.KENTUCKY – The lake wallenspau pack are in the process of reopening camp in Lake Crystal, the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources said.
Lake Crystal, Lake Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake is a small lake that forms at the confluence of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Kentucky River, in Cumberland County.
The Blue Ridge Park in Lexington is a popular spot for picnics, hiking, fishing and camping.
The department closed the campground due to heavy rain and a series of storms that destroyed tents and equipment.
A portion of the lake wallanspau packs was closed as well.
It reopened Wednesday afternoon.
“The lake wallinspau is open to the public, including children, and they can access campground and lake in the campsite,” a statement from the department said.
“The park is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to sunset, but visitors are encouraged to camp in the designated camping area outside the campsites.”
Lake Crystal was declared a Superfund site after an estimated 1,400 people died as a result of flooding and erosion from storms in 2014 and 2015.
